Marco Polo Award

The U.S.-China Foundation for International Exchanges (USCFIE) was instituted in the United States in 1986. The mission of the foundation is to promote exchanges between U.S. and China by sending volunteer American experts to China for humanitarian assignments and bringing Chinese professionals to the United States for training. The Foundation also facilitates the Marco Polo Award in the United States.

The Marco Polo Award was initiated by the Marco Polo Award Committee in Beijing to recognize the most visionary corporate friends of China . It is given to corporate leaders who will have a significant role to play in China ’s economic development and demonstrate a humanitarian commitment to improving Chinese society by sponsoring volunteer experts there for humanitarian assignments. It remains the highest honor given to a foreign business leader.

China ’s official hosts of the Marco Polo Award include China ’s State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA) and China Association for International Exchange of Personnel (CAIEP).

CAIEP is an international government-sponsored institution with offices throughout China and 12 overseas offices and partners in 9 foreign countries and HK SAR. The mission of the Association is to promote exchange and cooperation between China and other countries through the international exchanges professionals. CAIEP is supported by SAFEA, a government department of China that reports directly to China ’s State Council.

The US-China Foundation for International Exchanges sponsors about 200 professionals to the United States for training while sending more than 50 American volunteer experts to China per year for humanitarian assignments. The volunteer experts include medical doctors, bankers, stock brokers, auditors, teachers, entrepreneurs and agricultural experts, to mention only a few fields of interest. These dedicated men and women go to China as ambassadors of goodwill. The trainees sponsored by the Foundation to the US are comprised of mostly government officials, entrepreneurs and other professionals.
